MODAR Music is a Music Label was founded by Masahiro Oda(小田将弘) in Hokkaido, Japan in 2021. We based on Sapporo City (famouse for 1972 Winter Olympic) and Tobetsu Town (very small town located next to Sapporo).

MODAR Music starts as Masahiro Oda’s private label, releases his works and his projects. He produced music using analog synthsizers, rhythm machines, digital portable keyboards and acoustic piano. His music is always difficult to categorize to a specific gener, sometimes pop, sometimes avangurd or experimental, so this label is “All Category Music label”. But If we had to say that MODAR Music focuces on “Others Category Music / Sonota(その他) Music”. Accually Masahiro Oda is strongly influenced Yellow Magic Orchestra, but he always produces music in a different way from YMO. If he made techno-pop music, it comes to be not simular to YMO.

We try to create and release better music than today’s DAW productions using Plug-ins and Software Synthesizers. We have a studio called “MODAR Studio” in Tobetsu. Our Equipments are selected from the point of view of “Analog” or “Hardware”. We use Analog Mixers(Neve and Mackie), Analog Effectors(Spring Riverbs, BBD Delays…), and we don’t record those sound to computer, directly record to DSD recorder. So MODAR sounds are softer to your ears comparing with today’s solid hard sounds.

Mass production make the world convenient, but it may make our lives boring. Acturely digital contents are very useful, and physical objects, for example CD or CD-R, are losing atractiveness. Beside Digital version (Subscription/Download), We want to develop natural or handmade products. MODAR Music will use handcraft or handwriting in packages of CD/CD-R or label goods.

Nowadays, the problems of musical rights are severe. In fact, it’s important to protect rights of producers, songwriters and performers. But on the other hand people can’t enjoy thier own music, life as we used to be a child. Recently, most of internet service has AI or some programs to check illegal upload or illegal use of copyrighted materials, but we don’t think it’s good for music listeners. Strict control is not only music. The world is going to be surveilliance society. Big brothers and holding company watching your life. Anyway, MODAR Music will release music in Creative Commons Licence. We want to make musical situation better using this license. Detail about CC Licence is here.
